Should we send our children to Holiday Camps and Summer Camps?

The June holidays and Summer holidays are just around the corner in Singapore!  Have you made plans with or for your children yet?

With a couple of months off school, it can be the best time for children to rest and recharge.  Some families may want to take the opportunity to travel for a family vacation or to visit family overseas.  Children can also get creative with role-play, building forts and the like with sibilings at home, or keep themselves busy with art and craft projects, Lego, board games and so on. However, for the rest of the holiday, we may find it challenging to keep them engaged, especially for working parents, and we certainly do not want to park our children in front of the screen.

We find that Holiday Camps and Summer Camps are the perfect solution for this!  From art camps, music camps, sports camps, adventure camps to robotics and coding camps, there is something for every child!  If you are still wondering whether it is a good idea to send your children to a Holiday or Summer Camp, please read on while we explore the wide range of benefits of Holiday and Summer Camps for children. Here are some of the key advantages:

  • Personal Growth: Holiday and Summer Camps often provide ample opportunities for personal development and growth through engaging in new activities of choice, such as skill-building workshops, sports training, team exercises and so on. Children can learn new skills, boost their self-confidence and develop resilience by stepping out of their comfort zones.

  • Creative Expression: Children can often get creative through arts and crafts, music, drama, robotics and coding, and other activities at Holiday and Summer Camps. They can explore their interests, express themselves creatively and develop their talents in a supportive environment.

  • Socialization: Holiday and Summer Camps bring together children from diverse backgrounds, and provide an opportunity for them to interact with peers outside of their usual social circles. This can help them develop social skills, make new friends, and learn to work effectively in a group setting. Through shared experiences, children learn important social skills such as communication, cooperation and empathy.

  • Independence and Responsibility: Children can gain independence and learn to take on responsibilities outside of their usual environment at Holiday and Summer Camps. Whether it is taking care of themselves, making decisions, problem-solving or contributing to group tasks, children learn valuable life skills that foster independence and responsibility.

  • Exploration of Interests: Holiday and Summer Camps often offer a wide range of activities, allowing children to explore different interests and hobbies they may not have the opportunity to try at home or at school. This can help them discover new passions and talents.

  • Learning New Skills: Depending on the choice of Holiday and Summer Camps, children can learn new skills or hobbies, such as S.T.E.A.M. subjects, arts and crafts, music and so on. These skills may complement formal learning at school, and transcend various aspects of life.

  • Resilience and Adaptability: Facing challenges and overcoming obstacles during camp activities help children develop resilience and adaptability. They learn to cope with setbacks, manage their emotions, and bounce back from failures.

  • Life Skills Development: Camp experiences teach practical life skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making and teamwork, which are valuable for personal growth and future success. Children often have the opportunity to engage in real-world experiences, and develop their creativity through hands-on activities and face-to-face interactions.

  • Memorable Experiences: Holiday and Summer Camps often create lasting memories and experiences that campers cherish for years to come. Whether it is learning or experiencing something new, conquering a challenge, bonding with new friends, children leave with unforgettable memories that enrich their lives.
